Wonderful World--a poem for friends in "dark places"

Come
take my hand.
I will show you.
I will show you the lilies sitting quietly atop the water.
I will show you the awkward fawn too shy
     to leave his mother’s side.
I will show you the small white church in the woods.
Have you tasted the icy mountain stream?
I will show you.
I will show you how the new babe takes your finger
      in her tiny hand.
I will show you the wheat bending to the wind.
I will show you the sky through the rippling leaves.
I hope, then, you will smile.

does this happen to you too?

INSERT PICTURE OF FAVORITE ROCKSTAR HERE

Thoughts of you are a sweet agony. They keep me from my needed sleep. I will try to drive away the extraordinary with thoughts of the ordinary:  Kitchen sink. Mop. Sneakers. Spoon. Uh oh...your eyes...your hair...your hips. Stop. Must—think—of—innocent—things: Rainbows. Ladybugs. Puppies. Kittens. Ohh, not again...your voice... your hands...your lips...your neck...you...

you...

                                            you...

                                                                                                 you...

                                                                                                                                     you....

From the Department of Incongruous Lyrics...Department

These are some lyrics to the song Black Mamba by The Academy Is...: "We've got one chance to break out. We need it now. Cuz I'm sick and tired of waiting, sick of this f**king apartment."
Lyrics by William Beckett, written when he must have been all of 19 years old!

Now Van Gogh...here was a guy who must have been sick of his f**king apartment. He died in obscurity!!

The "Affliction" Diaries (In Which I Try to Listen to the Most Heartbreaking 5 minutes and 28 Seconds I Know)

Day Four

Donned the headphones to try again. Made it past "Were you holding hands when my wrists bled?" and several random screams, got up to the part where he screams "liiiine," right before he goes into "so stay sweetly numb." Stopped and looked at the time thingy. What??!! Only two minutes? I'll never get through it at this rate.
Well, a kid wrote to me the other day, "just let it come to u, don't repel from it."  Alright, kid, I'll try it your way.
And I got through the whole thing, but I'm not gonna pretend it was easy. I guess there must be something wrong with me. I seem to be the only person who's affected this way by heart-wrenching lyrics and unearthly screams.
Now that I got through that, I'm more than ready to tackle my next sad song, "Golden" by Fall Out Boy. Should be a walk in the park.

The "Affliction" Diaries (In Which I Try to Listen to the Most Heartbreaking 5 minutes and 28 Seconds I Know)

Day Three

Made it up to "the future is bright without meeeee" and then he builds up and up to the scream "Spend some time walkin the line." And then there's a scream for no apparent reason. Okay, that's it for today.
I think I need a personal afi trainer. Someone to stand by me and wipe the sweat off my brow, and tell me to breathe.  I have set a goal of 3 minutes for tomorrow. See you then.

The "Affliction" Diaries (In Which I Try to Listen to the Most Heartbreaking 5 minutes and 28 Seconds I Know)

Day Two

My first attempt at listening to Affliction for the second time was a dismal failure.  I made it as far as 19 seconds. That was when Davey started singing "Lover I am loveless..."  That just about did me in.  If only I had never read that lyric sheet. Then I could have just pretended he was saying "La la la la la la." Why do I have to be so oversensitive?

Tomorrow I'll WILL myself to go farther. until then...

I Dreamed of Gabe

Last night I had a dream about Gabe. We were kissing and cuddling and Gabe was explaining all about some obscure Jewish holiday ( I think it was Purim)!! (lol) God, I don't even have a crush on Gabe! Must be because of the cd coming out. The brain is a mysterious thing, isn't it?

Viva la Cobra!!

The "Affliction" Diaries (In Which I Attempt to Listen to the Most Heartbreaking 5 Minutes and 28 Seconds I Know)

Day One

I have listened to Affliction once.  It made me so sad, I haven’t had the guts to listen to it again. In general I avoid sad songs, because they make me sad. But I think if I force myself to listen to them enough, eventually I will get used to them. (My husband keeps trying to get me to watch horror movies because he thinks it will “toughen you up.”) So I am going to start with Affliction and see how it goes.

But not today. Maybe tomorrow.

Why I Need Buzznet

Why do I hang out at Buzznet?

Well, when I tell you about the music my real-life friends and family listen to, I think you’ll understand.

; )

Friends:
Deborah:  country music. Kenny Chesney, or some such. Gag.
Maureen:  the Beatles.  How can you still be listening to the Beatles?
Melissa:  Disney movie music.  She has 3 small children.
Rita:  Meatloaf.  Sorry, no.

Family:
Brother: Seal. Talented, but doesn’t rock.

My husband:  He’s an odd one. He’s pathologically averse to listening to any artist who has more than 9 fans. He likes the kind of people you go see in a bar, and they buy the audience drinks afterwards.  The only exception he makes is for the White Stripes.

Sister: oh boy. She enjoys listening to Tibetan monks chanting and ringing bells.

I love these people dearly, but music-wise, we are not on the same page. : D

First day of tour: Pete Wentz interview

Pete Wentz interviewed for THE LANTERN, Ohio State University newspaper 10.18.07

interview by Graham Beckwith

The Lantern: You will be touring with Gym Class Heroes and Plain White T's for the rest of the year. What are your thoughts on touring with them?

Pete Wentz: I like Gym Class a lot, I think that they are an interesting band because they are kind of too rock for hip-hop and too hip-hop for rock. Maybe it's not your cup of tea but I think they are one of the bands on our label that really draws other than Fall Out Boy fans. Plain White T's, we've known those guys for a long time. It's good to see them as well.

TL: Tell us your funniest tour moment of the year so far. What's the funniest thing to happen on tour?

PW: Probably the funniest moment was on the Honda Civic tour. We kind of played a lot pranks of tour. When The Academy Is... was playing, we had the sound guy cut the mic for Will (Beckett), their lead singer, in between songs. One of the guys on Cobra Starship (also on tour) could speak Japanese, and he could speak it really well. So we had perfect Japanese coming through the speakers, and there was nothing Will could do about it.

TL: You have written lyrics to a number of hit singles. Where do you get your inspiration from?

PW: Everywhere. I think that for me I can get it from anything, from watching these kids at the National Spelling Bee, trying to spell words. And I realize I can't spell a single word and these little 8-year-olds are spelling every one right, and the jealousy you can have towards an 8-year-old kid, which is absolutely insane.

TL: You went multiple-platinum with 2005's "From Under the Cork Tree," and you have gone platinum already with "Infinity on High." There is commercial success for Falloutboy, worldwide appeal. What goals do you and the band have for the future?

PW: I think we still haven't written our flagship song, we haven't written a song that connects or defines Fall Out Boy.

I'd hate to think if I thought we already did, and that's the most important thing. It's great to have the trophy in the trophy case, but it's far better to break the world record, and that's what we're really driving for.

We set out to be the greatest band on the planet, and we haven't really gotten quite there yet. But we've gotten a lot farther along than a lot of people expected. We got to see the world.

TL: What directions do you see the band going in?

PW: I said the other day that we wrote a bunch of songs on accoustic guitar and everybody thought that our next record was going to be a folk record. That's just how things work. It's not going to be a folk record, you know?

We could put out a record tomorrow I think if we wanted to, but we really want to find songs that really feel like we're going.

TL: In one recent video, you guys poke fun at the fact that you are now sort of being labeled as sell-outs or has-beens now that you have reached this successful stage in your careers? Obviously you and the band can't lose the notoriety that you now have, so what do you think of all this?

PW: It's weird because I've been on both sides of the coin. I've been there and I've felt like I've lost bands, and I've been in a band and people have felt like they lost us. It's an interesting thing because I felt like that with Green Day but now I can't be a better fan of Green Day. I've met those guys, and knowing their ideals and I can't believe what my 14-year-old self was thinking.

It's one of those things that changes with age I guess. At the same time, when people like us dance with the devil they're going to end up with a bit of the devil's cologne on them, I guess. I'm just thankful for the fans who have stuck around.

TL: One more question, and it is absolutely necessary that I ask you this. Fall Out Boy is a reference to Radioactive Man's sidekick on "The Simpsons." What is your all-time favorite Simpsons quote?

PW: Probably, the one that gets said the most is "go to bread," which I believe when Lisa is supposed to be babysitting Bart, and Bart says "go to bread" instead of "go to bed."

Poetry: I/me

I/me

I like the quiet
     and the noise.
I like champagne
     and cocoa puffs.
I am serious
     and silly.
Sometimes I have the answers.
Others times I’m not so sure.
I am impatient
     yet I can wait.
I am interesting
     and dull.
I am loving
     and wicked.
There is more,
but I haven't figured it out yet.

My Top Ten Favorite Movies

RULES:

1. You put here 10 favourites movies of your life.

2. You tag  maximum 10 people.

3. You CANNOT tag someone who has already been tagged.

4. You have to let the people you tagged know that they've been tagged.

5. You have to put PICS

My Top Ten Favorite Movies

You won’t find Citizen Kane on this list. Sometimes the “Great” movies are not your favorite movies.  My favorite movies are the ones I not only love, but can watch over and over again. The English Patient is a Great movie, but I don’t want to watch it over and over. For God’s sake, Ralph Fiennes’ face is melted off for half the movie.

(chronological order)

1.  It Happened One Night  (1934)
Classic screwball comedy from Frank Capra. The hitchhiking scene is key.

 2.  The Wizard of Oz  (1939)
Every time I watch it, I go, “Don’t go in the poppies!”  and they always go in the poppies. The Wizard scares me every time: I would jump out the window too, if I were the cowardly lion.

3. It’s a Wonderful Life  (1946)
Another Frank Capra picture with the amazing, amazing Jimmy Stewart.  In the end  when George’s brother calls him the richest man in town, I still get a lump in my throat.

“Zuzu’s petals!!”

4. Pick Up on South Street  (1953)

Tough and gritty film noir from Sam Fuller. Two great lines:

    1. “What do I know about commies? Nothin’. I just know I don’t like ‘em.”

    2.  “Everybody loves everybody when they’re kissing.”

 5.  To Kill a Mockingbird  (1962)
A beautiful drama about honor, courage and heroism as seen through the eyes of a child.  With Gregory Peck as the noble “Atticus Finch.”

“My daddy told me it was a sin to kill a mockingbird. They don’t do anything but make music for us to enjoy.’

 6.  What’s Up Doc? (1972)

A fast-paced, frenetic laugh riot from beginning to end. Even if you don’t like Barbara  Streisand. (My husband loathes Streisand and loves this movie.)

“It came out of the faucet that way, Eunice.”

7. Saturday Night Fever  (1977)

The contrast between the ugly and dead-end lives of Tony (John Travolta) and pals; and the beauty and escapism of the disco dance floor is stunning. And this is not a spoof, not camp, not a period piece; it is OF the era.

8.  The Sure Thing  (1985)
John Cusack owns this movie. Young, charming and zany.  I dare you not to love it.

“Nubile is spelled with a ‘u’.”

 9.  The Grifters  (1990)
This is a modern-day film noir about a doomed triangle of con artists. One of Angelica Huston’s best performances.  (She gets beaten up with a bag full of oranges.)  You feel like taking a cleansing shower after this one.

10. Shakespeare in Love  (1998)

Soooo romantic, and funny.  What really intensifies the humor is that Joseph Fiennes as Shakespeare is totally serious and everyone is funny around him.

“Where is the play, and what is my part?”

God, this was a lot of work. But worth it, I think. I would love to hear your opinions! The hardest part was finding 10 people who hadn't already been tagged.  I apologize to the people for whom this is coming right out of the blue.  : )

here are the people i tagged: stumpfan2007, mrsstumph, stumplover2384, fizzwizz9, stumplover4ever, phoenix82, annieli, derailedxdreams, hollow1005, evilnarc9

have fun!

Here's a blog that says....

Here is a blog that says there’s more to life than fob (I keep tellin’ myself)

Ya ever watch those homemade videos on Youtube? The ones where a guy or girl is sitting on the bed playing guitar, singing or trying to be funny?  What I can’t understand is why nobody ever tidies up their bedroom before turning on the camera!

There are always clothes strewn on the floor, the unmade bed, the half-eaten sandwich on the desk.  The closet is usually open to reveal disheveled clothes, lacrosse sticks, muddy cleats and various Star Wars toys they couldn’t bear to part with.

Don’t they realize that MILLIONS of  people all over the world are going to see what slobs they are?  And think of the untold mortification of their mothers!

Some days you just can't bear to listen to afi

       vs.

Yesterday, I listened to afi all day. (you know, death, beauty, poison, falling, sorrow and all that) The chills were good. Today, I put them on, and fear took hold of my heart. I hit “stop.”  Oh, Gabe, it’s you that I need today. Too bad the new album isn’t out yet. 21 more days......
